WHEN DO YOU NEED A V.I.N. VERIFICATION PERFORMED?

Answer: If you plan to register your vehicle in the State of Rhode Island and your vehicle's title is from another state or the vehicle was registered in another state, and the model year of vehicle is 2001 or newer, a V.I.N. check is required before you register the car.

Richmond Police Department - V.I.N. Check Hours:

weekdays (MoNDAY - Friday)

Daily: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

SATURDAYS

(Richmond residents only)

Morning: 9:30 am – 10:30 am

Afternoon: 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm

WEATHER PERMITTING and BASED ON STAFF AVAILABILITY

VIN CHECK FEE - $10.00 (CASH or CHECK)

You must bring the vehicle and ORIGINAL title to the police station, or the department will not be able to perform a V.I.N. check.
